Course Banners

Course Design

While working as a designer for BYU-Idaho’s Online Department, one of my frequent tasks was to create banners for online courses. Each of the banners had to match specific requirements, like size, to keep unity throughout all the different courses. The purpose of the banners was to help balance the heavy word count of most course pages with a little visual interest. All of the banners had to be a visual representation of the content in the course. To help achieve this I always began by reading through the course syllabus. Next I would do some sketches and look for possible stock photos that could be used. The images and final sketch were brought into Adobe Photoshop, where the final banner was made. Often I would receive feedback from my superiors on changes they would like to see made. The corrections would then be applied and the banner would be resubmitted for approval.
